4.2 cm demineralized tooth of Cosmopolitodus hastalis from California

The 4.2 cm fossil tooth of the mako shark (Isurus hastalis) comes from Sharktooth Hill in California. The tooth is almost completely demineralized and white. This occurs when groundwater flows through the sediment surrounding the tooth, preventing minerals from being deposited in the process of fossilization. The tooth is also very light for its size. A beautiful, rare object for collectors.
