4.2 cm well-preserved tooth from Serratolamna aschersoni

The 4.2 cm tooth of Serratolamna aschersoni has shiny grey-brown enamel. The lateral cusps are well preserved, as are the bourelette and massive tooth root. Serratolamna aschersoni was a relatively small to medium-sized prehistoric shark. Based on the size of its teeth, it is assumed that the species grew to a length of about 1 to 1.5 metres. The teeth are characterised by several lateral cusplets and are typical of the Serratolamnidae family. Fossil remains consist mainly of asymmetrical teeth with smooth crowns and characteristic multiple small cusplets. The roots of the teeth have a V-shaped base, typical of this species.
