The 2.3 cm long tooth of the Hexanchus microdon is in a good state of preservation and brightly coloured. Hexanchus microdon is an extinct species of sixgill shark. Sixgill sharks are a genus of deep-sea sharks and are found at depths of up to 2500 metres. They are characterised by their broad and pointed head and the six pairs of gill slits that give them their name. The teeth of these sharks are comb-like, which is why they are also known as comb-toothed sharks. The largest species can grow up to 8 metres long and weigh over 600 kg.
