5.7 cm large colorful tooth of Carcharocles megalodon from Bone Valley
The tooth of the juvenile Megalodon impresses by its beautiful beige and gold colored bourlette. Furthermore, it has an almost complete serration, which only shows signs of wear at the tip.
The region known as the Bone Valley Formation is located in Polk County in Central Florida in the United States. Numerous phosphate mines have been located here for many years, which are therefore not accessible to the public. The fossil findings in this region, especially the shark teeth , captivate by their special and colorful coloring. The fossilization and absorption of minerals also caused the mostly white coloration of the tooth roots and the bourlette. The teeth of Carcharocles Megalodon found here are often not very large, which suggests in expert circles that this region is one of the nurseries of the largest shark of all time.
