5.2 cm light-coloured mosaur tooth with shark tooth


The 5.2 cm long tooth of Mosasaurus beaugei has a light brown enamel, which is darker towards the tip. The enamel is beautifully preserved and the tip has been repaired. What is special about this tooth is that a fragment of a fossil shark tooth can be recognised in the root. The mosasaurs were a globally widespread group of predatory marine lizards in the Upper Cretaceous. The reptiles, up to 17 metres long, were among the most dangerous carnivores of the Cretaceous oceans.
