1.7 cm Pterosaur Siroccopteryx moroccensis Tooth

1.7 cm dark tooth of the pterosaur Siroccopteryx moroccensis

The 1.7 cm long tooth of Siroccopteryx moroccensis has a dark enamel and is very pointed. The tooth is in a very good state of preservation. Siroccopteryx was named by its discoverers (Keller, Mader 1999) after the warm desert wind Sirocco and means wings of Sirocco. The wingspan of this large pterosaur was 4 to 5 metres. It is likely that this animal was a specialised glider and ventured into the sea off the coast of Africa, mainly to catch fish.
