The 1.0 cm long, dark, fossilized tooth of the Triceratops from the Hell Creek Formation in Montana, USA, is in very good condition. The Triceratops (three-horned face) from the Ceratopidae family is one of the most famous herbivorous dinosaurs. Its characteristic features are its massive neck shield and two long horns above its eyes, as well as a smaller horn on its nose. The Triceratops reached a length of up to 9 meters and a shoulder height of 3.5 meters. It weighed up to 12 tons. Its sharp-edged beak was ideal for plucking grasses. The teeth were arranged in rows and located at the back of the jaw. They were replaced by the teeth behind them when they wore down.
