5.1 cm beautifully preserved mako shark tooth

The 5.1 cm tooth of Cosmopolitodus hastalis is in very good condition. The tooth has a very unusual shape with a very solid root and a slightly curved crown. It could be a so-called transition tooth, a recognizable transition from Isurus planus to Cosmopolitodus hastalis, as this tooth has distinctive features of both species. The enamel is light and blue-gray with sharp edges. The almost white tooth root is very well preserved and bulging with a clearly visible nutrient groove in the middle. These small holes in the root supplied the tooth with nutrients during the shark's lifetime.
