15.3 cm impressive black tooth of the Megalodon

The very large tooth of Carcharocles Megalodon, measuring 15.3 cm, is striking due to its completely black color. These black teeth are referred to as ‘jet black’ and are rare finds. The coloration is caused by pyrite deposited during the fossilization process. The teeth are very fine, razor-sharp, and perfectly preserved. The bourelette has been partially worn away. The two nutrient joints are beautifully preserved in the centre of the dull tooth root. These joints supplied the tooth with nutrients during the shark's lifetime. The tooth comes from the upper jaw of the prehistoric giant and illustrates the impressive size that the Megalodon could reach. The tooth was found about 15 years ago while diving in the Intracoastal Waterway near Savannah, Georgia. An impressive piece in collector's quality.
