The 8.9 cm tooth of the Carcharocles megalodon has a shiny gray-brown enamel. The fine, sharp serration stands out and is very well preserved. The black bourelette is well preserved and separates the enamel from the duller gray tooth root. The root of the tooth has been eroded and smoothed over the many millions of years in the sea, as it is softer than the enamel.
